QARDHO (SD) -Omar Hiraad Katun, the town’s police chief, was shot dead late last night in Qardho, the capital of Puntland’s Karkar region.

Armed gangs attacked Commander Omar Hiraad during an operation and opened fire, killing the Commander of Qardho Police Station.

Puntland State of Somalia Police Commander Brigadier General Mohamed Ali Hashi confirmed the assassination last night of Omar Hiraad Katun.

Witnesses reported that the gunmen, who were allegedly using alcohol, fled the scene shortly after the attack that killed the commander.

The Puntland State Police Commander added that the security agencies of the administration are conducting various investigations into the killing of the Commander, who was said to be on an operation at the time.
