Roble calls for acceleration of Somaliland’s senate election

MOGADISHU (SD) – Help the government expedite the process of Somaliland’s senetorial election, Somali prime minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble told his deputy PM and the speaker of the Upper House, Mahadi Guleid and Abdi Hashi respectively.

Following a meeting with representatives of Somaliland, the country’s chief justice and the electoral Commission in Somali capital, Mogadishu, PM Roble urged the electoral committee to immediately begin the Upper House election in the northern regions.

The Somali prime minister also said that the Upper House elections in the Somaliland need to be held this week, as the deadline for holding the Upper House elections is five days away.

Hashi and Guleid who had long been at loggerheads at the matter of selection of Somaliland’s representatives have recently buried hatchet following mediation brokered by the prime minister.

Electoral delegates for Somaliland will be selected by deputy prime minister and senate speaker Abdi Hashi, Prime minister Mohamed Roble has said in what is seen as a climbdown following uproar over a decision by the National Consultative Council last month to leave out the two leaders out of the process.
