DJIBOUTI (SD) -The Djibouti’s Auditor General, confirmed the arrest of two top officials and several businessmen, after a comprehensive examination on the expenditure for the 2021 budget.
A released press statement from the Auditor General stated, “The Ministry of Budget has squandered, and misspent public funds made available to it to cover state expenses by mobilizing large amounts of money.”
The statement also confirmed that the embezzled money was used to purchased repeatedly unnecessary equipment and supplies worth billions of Francs from a company, and claimed the money used for rebuilding the Ministry of Budget.
The two senior officials arrested today for their involvement in the fraudulent deals were Farah Mohamed Osman, the Deputy Director of Materials at the Ministry of Budget, and Sahal Said, the Director of the General Treasury.
Several traders and businessmen reported to have allegedly been working alongside senior government officials in the Ministry of Budget embezzling billions of Francs in national assets.
The office of the Director of Prosecution confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing and the individuals who are involved will be brought to justice.
