Nairobi (SD) – Kenyan media announces that two Kenyan border guards have been wounded at the Somali border in Beled Hawo, accusing Somalia national forces.
The Star newspaper quoting Kenyan military, reports that the soldiers were shot while on petrol at the Somalia border. The Kenya troops at the time of the attack had arrested two Somali girls at the border who were trying to cross into Kenya.
According to the report, a dispute ensued, which resulted in the Somali forces opening fire, injuring the two Kenyan officers, the report also confirmed that the two wounded soldiers are currently being treated at Mandera Referral Hospital.
Witnesses on the border said they did not identify the shooter but that the bullets came from the Somali side where units of the Somali National Army are stationed.
There hasn’t been anyone to confirm the Kenyan claim, and the country’s armed forces have not yet commented on yesterday’s incident.
The incident comes at a time of heightened political tensions between Somalia and Kenya.
