SNA destroys VBIEDs in southern Somalia

MOGADISHU (SD) – Three Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosives (VBIEDs) have been destroyed in three operations in southern Somalia amid intensified operations.

In a statement, information ministry said Somali forces in coordination with international partners launched attacks against the vehicles belonging to al-Shabaab.

The Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive devices (VBIEDs) were destroyed in Kunya-Barow, Jilib, Haramka localities.

“Somali government and its international security partners destroyed separately three vehicles packed with explosives in Jilib, Kunyo-Barrow and Haramka in Southern Somalia,” the statement reads in part.

The development comes the government forces stepped up operations against al-Shabaab fighters in south and central Somalia.

Last week, Somali forces captured some key areas in Qaycad, in Mudug region, after heavy fighting against Al-Shabaab fighters.

SNA and Galmudug forces recovered a large number of weapons and communication equipment during the operation in central Somalia.

The government’s Danab elite forces and international partners are also targeting terrorist bases in the region, carrying out three airstrikes within three weeks in central Somalia.
