MOGADISHU (SD) The Commander of the Somali National Army, Gen. Dayah Abdi Abdulle, has announced that more than 80 Al-Shabaab militants were killed in a 48-hour battle in the areas of Caad and Baraag Sheikh Ismail within the Xara Dheere district of Mudug region.
Gen. Dayah, speaking to state media, confirmed that the Somali National Army, in collaboration with forces from Galmudug and local militias, engaged Al-Shabaab militants in areas that had been under the control of the militant group for an extended period. The operation aimed to liberate these areas and eliminate the ongoing threats posed by Al-Shabaab.
He claimed that significant progress had been made in reclaiming strategic locations from the militants, describing the liberated areas as important strongholds that Al-Shabaab had used as bases for planning and launching attacks. Gen. Dayah noted that the Somali government is committed to maintaining security and will continue its efforts to counteract the activities of extremist groups like Al-Shabaab.
The announcement highlighted the ongoing joint efforts by the Somali National Army, regional forces, and local militias to weaken and dismantle Al-Shabaab’s influence in various parts of the country.
