SNA kills two al-Shabaab militants in southern Somalia

MOGADISHU (SD) – At least two al-Shabaab fighters have been killed and several other wounded in fierce fighting with Somali forces in southern Somalia, the country’s military confirmed Thursday.

According to the statement, Somali National Army (SNA) said Somali forces have repulsed al-Shabaab attack on SNA base in Janale town of Lower Shabelle region.

“Our forces managed to defeat al-Shabaab fighters after the group attempted to attack our base in the town,” the SNA statement reads part.

The military claimed to recovered weapons including ak47 rifles and ammunition.

Al-Shabaab also confirmed the attack saying their fighters stormed the military base in Lower Shabelle region.

The group has been attacking SNA and forces of African union mission in Somalia (Amisom).

Al-Shabaab lost control of many towns including Somali capital following fierce fighting with Somali forces backed by Amisom troops.
