Mogadishu (SD) – The Somali Media Association (SOMA) has elected a new leadership today, following a three-day meeting in Mogadishu.
SOMA General Assembly meeting attended by Directors, and representatives of SOMA radio stations from across the country, elected Mohamed Osman Makaraan, as the new chairman, while Hilal Sheikh Aweys was elected as the Secretary of the Somali Media Association (SOMA).
Hilal Sheikh Aweys, Sharmarke Suley, Mohamud Abdi Ibrahim & Ahmed Aano-geel competed for the chairmanship, and Hilal Sheikh Aweys, the director of Radio Warsan in Baidoa, won the chairmanship of SOMA with 17 votes.
Ahmed Omar Salihi and Hassan Abdirahman run for the post of vice chairman, with Ahmed Omar Salihi been elected as the vice chairman for the next three years.
Former Secretary of the Somali Media Association SOMA Mohamed Abduwahab Abdullahi, handed over the post to the new SOMA Secretary General Mohamed Osman Makaraan, saying they will work with him.
