New York (SD) – Somali Federal Government’s ambassador to the United Nations Abukar Dahir Osman (Abukar Baale) was elected vice chairman of the 75th session of the United Nations today.
Ambassador Abukar Baale will be in office for a year, working with Chairman Volker Bozkir from Turkey, to coordinate UN activities, preparing the General Assembly’s agenda, and resolve challenges and concerns of member states. It is the first time in 33 years that Somalia has succeeded.
He was previously appointed by the United Nations ambassadors for the United Nations, Hassan N. Elmi 1963-64, Abdi Haji Hussein, Ahmed M. Adan Qaybe 1979-1980 and Ambassador Abdi Osman 1986-87.
