Mogadishu August 15, 2023 (SD) – A joint military operation carried out by Somali forces and the US military targeted a meeting where Al-Shabaab militants were gathering in the Galgaduud region, particularly in the outskirts of Galcad city.

A statement from the Somali government broadcasted on the National Television, indicated that the attack occurred approximately 35 kilometers south of Galkayo city in the Galgaduud region.

An airstrike, conducted by US military aircraft, reportedly resulted in the deaths of 5 members of the Al-Shabaab group. These individuals were situated in a location that the airstrikes precisely targeted, leading to casualties among the Al-Shabaab militants.

The frequency of US military airstrikes has intensified against Al-Shabaab’s positions, and over the past few days, these airstrikes have inflicted significant damage to Al-Shabaab’s facilities in the Galhareeri district.

The operation has gained momentum as the latest attempt to weaken Al-Shabaab’s presence in the eastern Galgaduud region, particularly in the towns of Ceelbuur, Galhareeri, and surrounding areas.
