Somalia: Feds and member states discuss Tax collection

Mogadishu August 14, 2023 (SD) – A meeting chaired by Somalia’s Minister of Finance for two days was concluded today in the city of Mogadishu. The meeting, attended by Federal Government of Somalia officials, representatives from Federal Member States, and Banadir Regional Administration, discussed various financial matters.

The Ministry of Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia, together with the State Governments and Banadir Regional Administration, focused on the improvement of finances, taxation centralization, and debt relief regulations.

The Minister of Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Bihi Iman Egeh, speaking after the meeting, highlighted that during the event, discussions were held between the Federal Ministry of Finance and representatives from State Governments and Banadir Region regarding the centralization of tax collection at the national level and ways to enhance its efficiency.

The meeting of the Federal Ministry of Finance, State Governments, and Banadir Regional Administration also addressed development projects supported by the international community, particularly those benefiting Somalia as a whole and the Financial Governance Facility (DPO).

Finally, the meeting produced joint resolutions from the Federal Ministry of Finance, State Governments, and Banadir Regional Administration. The Puntland regional state did not participate in the meetings, despite the Federal Government inviting them to the discussions.
