MOGADISHU (SD) – The Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Bare, has issued a call for peace in the prodemocracy protests that rocked Somaliland yesterday where scores of civilians were killed and injured.
“I am very sorry for the violence and chaos that has been going on for the last two days in Somaliland. I am calling on the Somaliland authorities to seek their goals through dialogue” said Somali PM Hamza Abdi Barre.
The Prime Minister also spoke about the good history of Somaliland in consensus building and democratization.
“Brothers, you have always been a symbol of democracy and that you have handed over power peacefully. I call on you to maintain the peace and order that God has given you and the stability and good governance that you have established for a long time.”
PM Hamza called on Somaliland intellectuals to intervene in order to settle the situation “I am calling on elders, intellectuals, scholars, youth, women and the whole community to intervene and find solutions to the existing problems so that it does not happen again.”
Adding that “Finally, brothers and sisters, the Federal Government of Somalia is always in support and is a shield for you and is ready to participate in finding solutions to problems facing our brothers and sisters in Somaliland.”
In all Somaliland regions, there were prodemocracy rallies yesterday, at least six people were killed and other scores of civilian were injured.
