MOGADISHO (SD) – Somalia’s presidential forces and special police will officially take over the general security of the Presidential Villa Somalia tomorrow, as confirmed by the Security Adviser to the President of the Republic, Hussein Moalin.
The overall security of Villa Somalia, including the Offices of the President, Prime Minister, and Parliament, has been under the control of the African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) since its first deployment in 2007.
This transition marks a significant development in Somalia’s security apparatus, and it is expected that the forces responsible for maintaining peace in Somalia will gradually assume control throughout the country.
ATMIS has previously handed over military bases located in various regions of the country, with the ultimate goal of systematically transferring security responsibilities to Somali forces by the end of 2024.
The ATMIS forces continue to oversee the security of other important locations in Mogadishu, including Aden Adde International Airport and the large market in the city.
