Somali Government accuses Journalist Abuja of a Murder and Al Shabab member

Mogadishu (SD) – The Somali government says that Mohamed Abdiwahab Abuja, a journalist detained in Mogadishu for more than a month, is suspected of being a member of al-Shabaab.

A press statement issued today by the Somali Ministry of Information said the security agencies had made the allegations against Abuja, the editor of Hiigsi Radio in Mogadishu.

The statement said that Abuja was suspected of being involved in the killing of Mohamud Bahsaney Boley in Bondhere district of Mogadishu in 06/03/2019.

The Government failed to disclose any of the evidence of the serious allegations leveled against Mohamed Abdiwahab Abuja.

The Ministry of Information said in the statement that the security agencies forwarded the accused journalist’s file to the judicial authorities.

The statement comes as the media and their advocates have been asking the Federal Government to release the jailed journalist for days now.
