MOGADISHU (SD) – The Special Representative of the Somali president for Humanitarian Affairs and Drought Relief, MP Abdirahman Abdishakur and the leadership of the Drought Relief Committee, had a Zoom meeting with Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.
The Special Representative thanked Congresswoman Ilhan and the United States Government for their support to the drought-stricken Somali people, noting in particular in her efforts in the $ 55 million increase in US aid to Somalia in responding to the drought crisis.
The envoy then called on Congresswoman Ilhan to redouble her efforts to help the Somali people, and in response to his request, MP Ilhan pledged to assist in the campaign inside the United States as well as other countries that could assist in humanitarian matters in Somalia.
She also mentioned that she will contribute to the coordination of Somali-Americans efforts to help their fellow countrymen and described Somalis as good people who help each other.
The envoy and Congresswoman Ilhan commended each others efforts in helping the needy Somali people and pledged to work together and hold other meetings in the country and abroad.
