Somali government extends tax relief to local traders

Mogadishu (SD) – The Somali government has reduced taxes on food Staple to meet and maintain the cost of living in the country and limit affects of measures taken to prevent the spread of Covid19.

Tax exempted goods include rice, dates, flour and oil, tax relieve for those goods are 50%.

The government issued the tax exemption which starts today as not to affect the livelihood of most vulnerable people, especially women, children, internally displaced and disabilities during the month of Ramadhan.

Minister of Finance of the Federal Government, Abdirahman Duale Beyle said the unstable trade has halted trade in the country, noting that the country’s economy will suffer as a result of decreasing revenues and taxes.

Ministry of Finance has encouraged the promotion of domestic production, particularly farming as part of efforts to seek self-sufficiency and sustainable economic growth.
