Somali government welcomes sentencing of AMISOM soldiers

Mogadishu (SD) – The Somali government has welcomed the sentencing of two soldiers accused of killing civilians in the Lower Shabelle region by an AMISOM court in Halane.

Somali Minister of Justice Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur said that the implementation of this ruling will be swift and be monitored and verified by the Somali government and the victims lawyers and relatives.

“We and Uganda were witnesses to the ongoing work and investigations, director of the ministry of defense was technically working with the committee, ”he added.

“Such a case has never happened before in the country but whether it happens inside or in Uganda, the Somali government and its relatives will be witnessed,” said Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur.

Finally, the Minister underlined that the government will inform the people of Somalia, when and where the convicted soldiers will be executed.

Two Ugandan soldiers were sentenced to death and another three to 39 years in prison each, relatives of the victims will also be compensated.
