Somali journalist survives attack in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU (SD) – A local journalist was last night attacked by unknown assailants in Somali capital, the latest in a string of attacks against journalists in the horn of Africa nation.

Hanad Ali Guled, who works with Goobjoog TV was heading to his home in Mogadishu’s Wadajir district when four unknown people accosted him.

The attack happened around 11:00pm local time on Wednesday night.

The assailants reportedly stabbed at the upper arm and the back neck.

Somali Journalist Syndicate (SJS), a local media watchdog based in Mogadishu has condemned the attack against the journalist.

Abdalle Ahmed Mumin, the secretary general of SJS has called for immediate investigation into incident.

“The attack and beating against our Secretary of Trainings amounts to an attack on all our members and we condemn in the strongest terms possible,” said. “We are particularly concerned amid ongoing threats on our union officials and staff. We hope for a speedy recovery of our colleague.”

On 4 May 2020, Kalsan TV journalist Said Yusuf Ali was stabbed to death near his home in Mogadishu. The case remains unsolved as of today. SJS hopes Somali police to fully investigate and expose those behind this attack.
