MOGADISHU (SD)-The President and Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Hamza Abdi Barre extended their heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives, and all the people of Somalia on the passing of the former President of Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud Siilaanyo, who passed away this evening in Hargeisa.

The President and Prime Minister recalled the significant historical role the late Siilaanyo played in serving and developing his country, especially during his tenure as the Minister of Planning and Commerce of the Republic of Somalia. They also noted his invaluable contribution to opening dialogue between Somaliland and the Federal Government of Somalia.

The President of Somaliland, Muse Biihi Abdi, also extended his condolences to the nation on the death of the former President. In a presidential decree, he declared a two-day mourning period in Somaliland to honor and remember Ahmed Siilaanyo.

Former President of Somaliland Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud Siilaanyo passed away last night in Hargeisa at the age of 86.
