Mogadishu (SD) – The chairperson of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Halima Ismail Ibrahim (Halima Yarey), described the commissions appointed by most state governments as violating an earlier agreement.
In a post on her Twitter account, Halima Yarey said that regional administrations except Puntland did not include any women in their nominated committees.
She also called on Prime Minister Roble, whose government is in charge of the electoral process, to address the issue, calling it a violation of an agreement reached between federal and state leaders in Mogadishu.
The four members nominated by President Said Deni to represent Puntland at the federal election and dispute resolution commissions included one woman, while in other regional administrations the nominees were all male.
