Mogadishu (SD) – Members of both Houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia approved the federal and regional leader’s recent agreement on the country’s election process.
The agreement was approved by 252 lawmakers, rejected by 2, and abstained by 1, according to speaker of parliament Mohamed Mursal Sheikh Abdirahman.
Speaker of the Upper House Abdi Hashi Abdullahi thanked lawmakers for approving the agreement, which he said was important for elections in the country.
The meeting was co-chaired by the two Speakers of the parliament Mohamed Mursal Sheikh Abdirahman and the Upper House Abdi Hashi Abdullahi along with their deputies.
Somalia’s parliamentary elections are scheduled to begin on November 1, 2020, according to a clause in the agreement approved by both houses of parliament today.
