Somali PM calls for joint war on terror

MOGADISHU (SD) – Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble called for unity against al-Shabaab fighters hours after a suicide bomber targeted a police station in the Somali capital.

“We must work together to fight terrorists who are preventing our people from living in peace,” Roble said.

At least six people, including Police Commissioner Waberi, Ahmed Bashane and Deputy Waliyow Police Chief Adde Abdi Basida, were killed in an explosion at a police station in the Waberi district of Mogadishu.

Somali police spokesman Sadik Aden Ali said Ahmed Bashane, Waberi’s district police chief, and Abdi Basid, Waliyow Adde’s deputy chief of police, were among those killed in the attack.

“We can confirm that six people were killed in a suicide bombing tonight, including two senior police officers, three soldiers and a neighbor, and six others were injured,” Ali said.

Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack. The group often carries out attacks on security forces and other government officials in Mogadishu.
