Somali President delivers a historic speech at the East African Community Summit

ARUSHA (SD) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud delivered a historic speech at the East African Community (EAC) Summit, praising the cooperation and progress achieved since the establishment of the EAC.

This summit was the first in which Somalia participated as a full member. Somalia will assume the General Secretariat position next year, with Kenya elected as the chair.

The President promised that Somalia will align with the EAC’s 2050 goals for economic cooperation in East Africa. He also emphasized that Somalia is ready to play an active role in the EAC’s initiatives concerning development, socio-economic growth, trade, and social integration.

Among the topics discussed by EAC member states at this year’s summit were technology services, taxation, security, and the members of the EAC Court.

Earlier this year, Somalia became the eighth country to join the East African Economic Community.

Additionally, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held an important meeting with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu, where the two leaders discussed strengthening the relationship between their countries.
