Somali President meets with US Deputy Secretary of State

MOGADISHU (SD) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland accompanied by US Ambassador to Somalia Larry André.

The US President and US Vice Secretary of State for Political Affairs discussed strengthening diplomatic ties and cooperation between the two countries.

The President and the Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs discussed strengthening diplomatic ties and cooperation between the two countries, as well as increasing US support for Somalia, particularly in drought relief, state-building, public service development, and infrastructure, economy and the fight against terrorism.

Ambassador Victoria Nuland, congratulated the President on his election, said that the United States will play a key role in drought relief, expressing its commitment to strengthening friendly support and strengthening the long-standing ties between the two governments.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud thanked the United States for its continued support to Somalia and noted the importance of international cooperation, and that the Federal Government of Somalia is focusing on drought relief, investment, debt forgiveness and strengthening international relations.
