Somali president’s son Testifies in an Istanbul court

ISTANBUL (SD) -The son of Somalia’s President, Mohammed Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, who was involved in a car accident that resulted in the death of a Turkish citizen, appeared before an Istanbul city court in Turkey.

The court, which convened with a heightened security presence, heard Mohammed Hassan testified on the circumstances surrounding the car accident that claimed the life of the Turkish citizen, identified as Yunus Emre Göçer.

The accident occurred on November 30th 2023, as a vehicle driven by the son of President Hassan collided with the motorcycle ridden by Yunus Emre Göçer, in Istanbul. Yunus Emre Göçer succumbed to injuries two weeks later after the incident.

Additionally, the Istanbul city court reviewed the case thoroughly, leading to the indictment of Mohammed Hassan Sheikh. The court proceedings are scheduled to resume on January 16th.

Earlier, the Somali Federal President had instructed his 40-year-old son, Mohammed, to return to Turkey and actively participate in the investigation related to the accident.

Furthermore, President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud gave his condolences to the Victim’s family.
