Somalia: Abdalle Muumin re-arrested few days after his release

Mogadishu October 19,2022 (SD) – The Somali Journalists Syndicate confirmed that their general secretary, Abdalle Ahmed Mumin, was arrested again by the Somali government forces.

In a statement posted on Twitter, SJS said that he was arrested while trying to leave Mogadishu airport, trying to get medical help to Nairobi, Kenya.

Abdalle Ahmed Mumin was released on bail on Sunday after being detained on October 11th. Banadir regional court recently delayed his case for 45 days.

The government of Somalia has not yet responded to SJS’ accusation that Abdalle Ahmed Mumin has been recaptured.

On the other hand, the international journalists’ organization CPJ reacted to the arrest of Abdalle and called for his immediate release.

“CPJ is very disappointed to learn that Somali journalist and press freedom advocate Abdalle Ahmed Mumin has been re-arrested in Mogadishu. Authorities should release him immediately and bring an end to this victimisation.”CPJ said.

Abdallah Mu’min i believed to have been targeted ever since he criticized government directives that banned Al Shabaab news coverage.
