Mogadishu (SD) – Reports from Elasha Biyaha town in lower Shabelle region indicate that a mortar shell was fired at an AMISOM base in Elasha Biyaha.

An hour-long battle between AMISOM forces and al-Shabaab fighters reportedly began with mortar shells.

Residents said they heard artillery shelling, no casualties were reported, it is difficult to get details of the incident, as the area is a military zone.

Elasha Biyaha’s Arbacow neighborhood is home to AMISOM troops, particularly from Burundi, and has at times come under attacks from Al-Shabaab.

AMISOM forces and Al Shabab group have not commented on the attack yet.
