Somalia and Egypt have agreed to strengthen ties through a strategic partnership

CAIRO (SD) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, held a significant meeting at the Al-Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo.

During the meeting, the two leaders agreed to elevate the relationship between their countries to a strategic partnership. This reflects the strengthening of their historical ties and aims to enhance cooperation in education, judiciary, politics, security, mobility, and economic development.

In the field of education, Egyptian universities, particularly Al-Azhar University, will increase scholarships and training opportunities for Somali students and professionals to develop various skills and knowledge.

The presidents also agreed to accelerate collaboration between institutions, especially in the judiciary and security sectors. Egypt reiterated its strong support for Somalia’s government and people in their fight against terrorism.

President Hassan Sheikh and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi witnessed the signing of an agreement between the Foreign Ministers of Somalia and Egypt, which waives visa requirements for holders of Somali diplomatic passports.

This move aims to enhance diplomatic cooperation and facilitate travel for citizens of both countries, addressing challenges related to visa requirements.

The two presidents emphasized the importance of this partnership in advancing bilateral relations and instructed the joint committees of Somalia and Egypt to expedite the implementation of these agreements, ensuring the realization of their shared goals of fraternal cooperation.
