Somalia and France discuss collaboration in security, migration, and economic development

PARIS (SD) – A delegation from the Somali government, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Ali Mohamed Omar, along with Ambassador Yonis Hashi, Director of the Europe and Americas Department, and other officials, met with Mr. Thani Mohamed Soilihi, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs for Francophonie and International Cooperation.

The meeting focused on the strong cooperation between Somalia and France, with particular emphasis on enhancing collaboration in key areas such as security, migration, and economic development.

The discussions highlighted Somalia’s increasing role on the global stage, including its recent election to the United Nations Security Council. France congratulated Somalia on its achievements in foreign policy and pledged to work closely together.

Both parties reiterated the importance of Somalia’s sovereignty and stability, with France confirming its support for efforts against terrorism, maritime security, and the African Union Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

The meeting also delved into economic cooperation, including the revitalization of French investment in Somalia’s infrastructure, such as fisheries. Somalia thanked France for reopening its embassy in Mogadishu, a step aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties. Both sides discussed the need to combat human trafficking and prevent natural disasters.
