Somalia and Somaliland Participating in the World Governments Summit

DUBAI (SD) – Officials from the Somali government and Somaliland are participating in the 2025 World Governments Summit, taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The summit will run from the 11th to the 13th of this month, with the UAE hosting the leaders attending the event.

This year’s summit will see the participation of over 30 presidents, ministers, more than 80 international organizations, 140 governmental delegations, and over 6,000 participants, including global experts.

The Somali government is represented at the summit by the Minister of Finance, Biixi Iimaan Cige, and the Minister of Youth and Sports, Maxamed Barre Maxamuud. Somaliland is represented by its President, Cabdiraxmaan Ciro, and ministers from his administration.

This year’s summit will focus on economic stability, digital transformation, governance, and public-private partnerships.

The President of Somaliland is among the leaders who will deliver a speech at the summit, and it is reported that he will meet with other leaders attending the event.

This move is seen as a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty, and it is possible that this step could harm the relationship between Somalia and the UAE.

The summit was established in 2013 and brings together leaders of governments, experts, and business leaders to discuss critical issues affecting the future of nations and global society.
