MOGADISHU (SD) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, met today in Baku, where they signed important agreements to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The two leaders discussed enhancing ties between their countries, focusing on education, energy, security, and governance expertise.
Somalia and Azerbaijan signed long-term agreements, including expanding educational cooperation, granting scholarships to Somali students, and promoting research and innovation. Azerbaijan also committed to supporting Somalia in developing its energy sector, particularly in oil, gas, and renewable energy.
In security and defense, both nations agreed to cooperate closely on military training, counterterrorism efforts, and strengthening security institutions. Additionally, they agreed to modernize government administration, improve public services, and enhance good governance.
President Hassan Sheikh and President Aliyev emphasized the importance of establishing a permanent platform to strengthen bilateral relations and ensure the implementation of their agreements.
Finally, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud formally invited President Ilham Aliyev to visit Somalia to further deepen cooperation between the two countries.
