Somalia and the United States discussed strengthening human rights and democracy

Mogadishu August 07, 2023 (SD) -Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, received Senior democracy and human rights Advisor in the U.S. State Department Hamza Warfa, who is visiting Mogadishu.

Prime Minister Hamza and the Senior democracy and human rights Advisor in the U.S. State Department discussed the importance of promoting freedom of speech, media leadership, and ensuring the dissemination of accurate information to the public regarding governance issues. Additionally, Prime Minister and Deputy Hamza Warfa assessed the country’s situation, the fight against terrorism, democratization efforts, and human rights in the country.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Xamsa Warfaa possesses extensive experience and is regarded as someone who understands the Somali people’s culture, regardless of their global locations. He stated that the international community’s involvement and support are crucial for the development of his homeland.

The Senior democracy and human rights Advisor at the U.S. State Department Hamza Warfa, expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and the productive meeting.

Furthermore, the Speaker of the Federal Republic of Somalia’s House of the People, Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Madobe), also received the Senior democracy and human rights Advisor in the U.S. State Department Hamza Warfa, today at his office.

Hamza Warfa thanked Speaker Sheikh Aden for the reception held at Villa Hargeisa, expressing his understanding that Somalia is emerging from a long conflict and that significant progress has been made in various areas.

Speaker Sheikh Aden Madobe praised Warfa’s constructive approach and expressed his confidence in the U.S. government’s continued assistance, highlighting the importance of international cooperation for the country’s comprehensive development and overcoming various global challenges.
