Somalia and Uganda reach new security cooperation deal

KAMPALA (SD)-The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, made an official visit to Uganda today, where he held a meeting with his Ugandan counterpart, Yoweri Museveni.

During their discussions, the two presidents focused on enhancing the relationship between their countries, addressing issues in the Horn of Africa, and strengthening the historical cooperation between Somalia and Uganda. Key outcomes of the meeting included Strengthening cooperation in security, trade, and development. They agreed to increase collaboration in trade and investment.

Support for the Somali Security Forces and the new AUSSOM operation. Welcoming Somalia’s new membership in the East African Community (EAC) and its representation on the United Nations Security Council for the years 2025-2026.
Uganda’s endorsement of lifting the arms embargo on Somalia is a significant step in allowing Somalia to take full responsibility for its national security.
