Mogadishu January 22, 2023 (SD) – -The African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) officially handed over the former Maslah military base, where troops from Burundi were stationed to the Federal Government of Somalia.

The handover of the base follows a joint Transition Plan, developed by the Federal Government, ATMIS, the UN, and development partners, to guide the transition process.

The Deputy Minister of Defense, Abdinur Dahir Fiidow, stated that the base will be used to house many troops currently undergoing training outside the country.

Other ATMIS troops are currently stationed in other bases in Mogadishu and some regions of the country, and when their mission is complete, it is expected that the Somali security forces will take full responsibility for security in the country.
