Somalia attends anti-terror conference

NY (SD)-U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken chaired the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, held in Washington, D.C. Representing Somalia. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ali Omar, attended the meeting.

The meeting focused on global efforts to counter terrorism, with ISIS being the primary target of the coalition. The coalition, comprising 87 countries, decided to strengthen international operations against terrorism, agreeing to enhance cooperation and support in security efforts to combat extremist groups.

During the meeting, Ali Omar emphasized Somalia’s commitment to fighting both Al-Shabaab and ISIS, highlighting the importance of coordinated global efforts to overcome these groups.

This meeting demonstrates the global commitment to continue the fight against terrorism, with pledges to increase financial and training support to mitigate the threats posed by extremist organizations.
