Somalia bans illegal opioids

MOGADISHU (SD) -The Deputy Minister of Health of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed Hasan Mohamed Bulale, stated that it is prohibited to import opioids used as drugs into the country.

The minister warned Somali people engaged in the trade of such drugs to cease their activities, threatening that the government will take strict measures against those involved in importing opioids into the country.

The Deputy Minister of Health of Somalia also mentioned that the government is committed to addressing substandard drugs imported by Somali traders.

Finally, the Deputy Minister’s statement comes at a time when Somalia is considered one of the poorest countries in terms of healthcare, as there is no official control over the drugs being imported, which traders bring in.
