Somalia: Council of Presidential Candidates Accuses Farmajo and Mursal of obstruction of Justice

Mogadishu (SD) – A statement from the Council of Presidential Candidates accuses Somali president Mohamed Farmajo of obstructing justice in the case of Ikraan Tahliil.

The Council of Presidential Candidates also accused President Farmajo of harboring suspects in the Ikraan Tahliil assassination case.

“The Council condemns the actions of the outgoing President in obstructing justice in the Ikraan case, and the illegal protection provided to the defendants in the case.” said the Council of Presidential Candidates.

The Candidates have made it clear that they fully support the Prime Minister in conducting a thorough investigation into the Ikraan’s murder case.

“The Council supports the Prime Minister in conducting a thorough investigation into the case of Ikraan Tahliil Farah and bring the accused to justice immediately.” the statement said.

The statement from the Council of Presidential Candidates denounced the activities of the Speaker of the House Mohamed Mursal.

“The Council is following the efforts of the former Speaker of the House of the People, Mohamed Mursal Abdirahman, to revive the outgoing House of the People, in an attempt to disrupt the Prime Minister’s efforts and prevent justice for Ikraan Tahlil and her family.”

The Council warned Mursal not to plunge the country back into civil war.

“The council warns former chairman Mursal against re-igniting civil strife, and the council urges him to refrain from conspiring to obstruct the constitutional process led by the prime minister.

The statement of the candidates comes at a time when the dispute between President Farmajo and PM Roble yet to be resolved.
