Somalia: Federal Electoral Commission issues new election timetable

Mogadishu (SD) – The Federal Electoral Commission (FEIT) has released the schedule for Somalia’s 11th parliamentary elections, clarifying when the Upper House elections will be concluded and when the parliamentary elections will begin.

According to the timetable released by the Federal Electoral Commission tonight, the Upper House elections are scheduled to conclude on September 18.

On the 25th of this month, the preparation and registration of the committee that will select the delegates and the candidates for the parliament will begin.

On October 1, as per the new timetable, the parliamentary elections is to begin, and will conclude on November 20.

Finally, the certification of the members of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia will begin on November 25th.

This schedule faces similar long-standing challenges, that caused delays to the previous election timetables, such as members of the Upper House of HirShabelle and those from the North have not yet been elected, while Galmudug and Jubbaland are yet to complete their Upper house elections.
