MUGADISHU (SD) -Former Presidents of Somalia, Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo have jointly issued a press release stating that they were unsuccessful in mediating between federal president Hassan Sheikh and regional president Said Deni.
In their statement, the two former presidents had agreed to facilitate the dialogue between Hassan and Deni, aimed at resolving the dispute between Puntland and the central government.
They accused President Hassan Sheikh of disrupting the mediation efforts by not suspending the constitutional review for two weeks.
They also indicated that Deni had accepted a tentative agreement aimed at ending the recent escalation in tensions.
President Hassan Sheikh was criticized for not yet committing to suspend the constitutional review process.
However, there has been no response from Villa Somalia addressing the allegations made by the former federal presidents.
