Somalia insists on amending Constitution

MOGADISHU (SD) -The Minister of Interior of the Somali government, Ahmed Mohamed Fiqi, has stated that there is no individual or group capable of unilaterally preventing amending Somalia’s comprehensive constitution.

Minister Fiqi emphasized that the government will not entertain politicians who can oppose amending the constitution through unconstitutional means, clarifying that there all Somali regions are participating in amendments to the constitution.

Ahmed Fiqi further mentioned that in the coming days, the parliament will vote on the issue of amending the four controversial articles of the constitution, asserting that the parliament is committed to its constitutional obligations.

The controversy surrounding Somalia’s constitution is currently at a critical juncture, with some opposition politicians attempting to stop amending the country’s constitution, sending a warning to the government.

Former Presidents of the country, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, and Sharif Sheikh Ahmed have been leading campaigns against attempts to tamper with the constitution.
