Garowe (SD) – Puntland security forces have today transferred Kilwe Adan Farah, a journalist who has been in the custody for 15 days, to the central prison in Garowe.
The journalist was formally booked and arraigned in a Garowe court, the charges against him are not yet known and he has not been allowed to meet with his relatives and lawyers, according to MAP secretary Naima Muse Dalaf.
The Puntland Media Association MAP has called for the journalist’s arrest, demanding that the journalist be charged if he broke the law and that he be allowed to meet with his lawyers.
Kilwe is an online journalist in Garowe and his arrest has some Puntland journalists saying they are fearing arrest if they did not stop posting editorials on their websites.
Somali journalists face pressures including illegal arrests and extrajudicial killings from all political sides in the country.
