Somalia: National Consultative Council concludes in Dhusamareeb

Mogadishu August 27, 2023 (SD) – The 7th meeting of the National Consultative Forum between the federal government of Somalia and regional administrations, which has been ongoing for two days, was officially concluded today in the city of Dhusamareeb. A comprehensive joint communique has been released following the meeting.

The meeting was chaired by the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and attended by the Prime Minister, Mr. Xamse Abdi Barre, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Salax Ahmed Jama, Deputy Prime Minister of the country, Mr. Ahmed Abdi Kaariye (Qoorqoor), President of Galmudug, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Islam, President of Jubbaland, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Islam, President of Southwest State, Mr. Cabdicasiis Hassan Mohamed (Lafta-gareen), President of Hirshabelle, Mr. Ali Abdullahi Hussein (Cali Guudlaawe), and Governor of Benadir Region, Mr. Yusuf Hussein Jimale Maddaale. The President of Puntland was also present.

Both federal and regional-level leaders discussed the country’s security situation, strengthening counter-terrorism operations, reclaiming areas from al-Shabaab, and enhancing basic community services.

The conclusion of this forum highlights the commitment of Somalia’s federal and regional authorities to addressing security challenges, improving governance, and enhancing collaboration to ensure the safety and well-being of the nation.
