Mogadishu (SD) – The Union of Somali Presidential Candidates issued an 18-point communiqué today, following a six-day conference in Mogadishu.
The statement from the candidates called for the dissolution of the electoral commissions, as they include members of the armed forces.
Presidential candidates have called on NISA Commander Fahad Yassin to step down, as he is the head of President Farmajo’s re-election campaign.
Candidates have threatened to hold another election if the government insists on not changing the current electoral process.
“If the federal government takes action to hold a disputed election, the council declares that it will work with various sectors of society and state governments in order to hold an election that will save the country from power and constitutional vacuum.” said a statement from Somalia’s Presidential Candidates.
The Union of Candidates also called on the federal government to withdraw its troops from Gedo region in the south of the country.
Candidates’ statement also called for the election of members of the Northern Regions to be held at the airport’s Afisiyoni Tent, in the presence of the candidates, the international community and security forces.
Candidates also demanded that Chairman Abdi Hashi nominate the Northern Regional Parliamentary Election Commission.
The Somali Federal Government is yet to respond to Candidates demands, but offered yesterday to meet with the candidates in person to discuss their concerns.
