Somalia: Opposition says their homes were attacked

Mogadishu (SD) – A statement from the Union of Opposition Candidates strongly condemned Alleged attacks by forces under the command of outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo taken on the residences of former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Wadajir party leader Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame.

“Part of the attack was the Gorgor forces, trained, equipped and paid for by the Turkish government. Intelligence Chief Fahad Yassin got ammunition from AMISOM for today attack.” said an statement issued tonight by the Union of Candidates Council.

The council also warned AMISOM and the Turkish government backing Gorgor forces not to be part of what they called a “civil war” in Mogadishu and clarify their position on their support used in the civil conflict, and take clear action in this regard.

“This is the second time Farmajo’s forces have attacked Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Abdirahman Abdishakur, both members of the Union of Candidates. The council also condemns the repression and oppression of the Somali people by Farmajo’s forces, especially the peaceful protesters in Mogadishu, who oppose his illegal term extension,” the statement said.

The Council of Candidates said in a statement that it had previously warned of dire consequences if the army was used politically and diverted from its goal of fighting al-Shabab.

Somali security minister Hassan Xundubey Jimale held a press conference in Mogadishu recently to discuss the situation in Mogadishu, and issued a directive to the city’s residents.

The minister called it a lie that government forces attacked the house of former president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

He also said that the fighting in Mogadishu is being pushed and is backed by foreign governments, he said.
