Somalia: PM Roble begins meeting with opposition candidates

Mogadishu (SD) – The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia Mohamed Hussein Roble, in an effort to find solutions to the electoral dispute, is launching a series of meetings with opposition candidates.

PM Roble is reportedly scheduled to have a private lunch today with prominent politician Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, a member of the Union of Candidates who strongly opposes the federal government’s approach to the election.

The meeting between the prime minister and Abdirahman Abdishakur will focus on the election concerns of the country’s opposition candidates.

According to sources close to the PM, the meeting was requested by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble who wants a unified solution for the country’s 2021 elections.

The meeting comes at a time when the opposition candidates are in Garowe for consultations.

The federal government of Somalia has come under pressure in recent days from Somali political stakeholders demanding a genuine agreement on the elections.
