Mogadishu (SD) – The United Arab Emirates has sent a donated medical equipment and supplies to the Somali government, the aid including a ventilator machine arrived Mogadishu today.

The aid donations are usually received by a multiple high ranking government officials, but today’s UAE’s aid were received only by minter of Aid and disaster management Hamza Said Hamza.

Insiders believe that the Lukewarm reception may have to do with Somali government close relationship with Qatar, a UAE rival. Likewise the UAE has business interests in Somaliland, a rival Somali breakaway region.

Its worth noting that the UAE donated similar aid to Somaliland days prior, which could be adding to Mogadishu’s political discomfort.

Qatar has yet to donate any substantial aid to Somalis since the outbreak of the world pandemic.
