Somalia secures a non-permanent seat at UNSC

NY (SD)-Somalia has successfully secured a seat among the five new non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council for the 2025 to 2026 term.

The Council voted today for the five countries, which include Somalia, Pakistan, Denmark, Greece, and Panama. From today onwards, they officially become non-permanent members of the UN Security Council. Somalia will represent the African continent for the next two years in this capacity.

Somalis both within the country and abroad have praised the Somali government for securing a seat on the UN Security Council.

The Federal Government of Somalia made significant efforts to obtain this non-permanent seat. Somalia and the other four countries—Denmark, Greece, Pakistan, and Panama—will replace the previous non-permanent members: Mozambique, Switzerland, Malta, Japan, and Ecuador.
