Baledweyn (SD) – The Somali National Army (Danab) has reportedly destroyed Al-Shabaab bases in a planned military operations Shabelle and Hiran regions.

The operation also resulted in the capture of al-Shabaab officials, according to SNA Radio.

The commander of the 4th Danab Commandos, Mohamed Saleban, told the Armed Forces Radio that Al Shabab’s chief financial officer in Hiran, Hassan Yusuf Ali, and the head of Shabelle regions, Abdullahi Isaq Hussein, were arrested during the operation.

There are no independent sources to confirm the commander’s claims, and Al-Shabaab did not respond to the Somali army’s claims.

The government troops said operations come at a time when there is an increased military response to Al Shabab’s threats in the country.
