Mogadishu August 03, 2023 (SD) – The Somali Ministry of Youth and Sports has strongly condemned the embarrassing race involving a Somali girl who participated in Chinese-hosted international university games a track event.

A statement released by the Ministry criticized the efforts of the President of the Somali Athletics Federation, Khadija Adan Dahir.

It said, “The Ministry regrets that Nasro Abukar Ali is not a qualified athlete in her category and that Mrs. Khadija organized a hasty and unfortunate race that brings shame and disgrace to the nation.”

Furthermore, the Somali Olympic Committee has supported the minister’s decision, and they have completed an immediate investigation into President of the Somali Athletics Federation, Khadija Adan Dahir.

This comes after the incident in the women’s 100m race at the world University competition in China, in which a Somali female athlete was among the participants, coming last in her event.

An emergency meeting of the Investigation Committee is scheduled to take place, with the aim of ensuring a fair decision is reached, avoiding any hasty actions that could damage the reputation of the sport, said the statement.
