Somalia to closely monitor the elections in Somaliland

MOGADISHU (SD)-A press release from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia has addressed the upcoming one-person-one-vote elections in Somaliland, which are considered highly sensitive.

The ministry also added, “We hope the elections will end peacefully and contribute to stability and democracy.”

This statement comes ahead of the presidential election in Somaliland, which is expected to take place on November 13. The election campaign is currently underway between the three major political parties: Kulmiye, Waddani, and UCID.

Additionally, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Somalia mentioned that it will closely monitor the elections, wishing success to the people and leadership of Somaliland.

“The Federal Government of Somalia, recognizing the important role of the democratic process and strengthening the electoral process in Somalia, will closely follow the upcoming election in the northern region of Somaliland,” the statement read.

This statement follows one made earlier by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who praised the upcoming elections in Somaliland, acknowledging that they are not the first of their kind in the region.
